Rueda Eco

Rueda Eco

Rueda Eco is a fun and visually striking variation of Rueda de Casino that adds a unique twist to the traditional dance. The name “Eco” comes from the Spanish word for “echo,” and that’s exactly what happens in this style: one group of dancers leads with a move, and the second group echoes it right after, creating a wave-like effect through the circle.

How Rueda Eco Works

In Rueda Eco, the dancers are divided into two groups: primeiros and segundos. Primeiros includes the caller and every second couple in the circle, while segundos is made up of the remaining couples. When the caller announces a move, primeiros goes first, and segundos follows, echoing the move immediately. This creates a rhythmic back-and-forth between the two groups that’s both mesmerizing to watch and a lot of fun to dance.

The Origins of Rueda Eco

Rueda Eco is a relatively new addition to the world of Rueda de Casino. It was created by Jaroslav Hluch around 2016 and made its big debut at the SalsaNor Rueda Congress in Bergen, Norway, in 2019. Since then, it’s quickly gained popularity among Rueda dancers for its innovative and engaging approach.

Why Dancers Love Rueda Eco

What makes Rueda Eco special is the way it challenges dancers to work together. The echo effect relies on precise timing and strong coordination between the two groups, so everyone has to be on the same page. This not only makes the dance more exciting but also helps build a deeper connection between the dancers. After all, you’re not just dancing next to each other—you’re creating something together.

Visually, Rueda Eco is a showstopper.
